It’s all about the Wedding Cakes!

Happy February everyone!  …uh, ok not so much.  I get it.  Dreary, blah, gray and yes C O L D! I think I could sleep until April and not feel like I missed anything…lol  So as I was reviewing some Wedding images looking for a stellar blog idea, this wave of joy came over me when I started to look at the cake photos!  Oh SO yummy, sweet, moist and colourful.  Really like a piece of artwork.

I photographed a Halloween Wedding one year where the reception was a costume party and the cake was MAGNIFICENT!  Something out of a Tim Burton movie.

There were so many varieties of cakes as I went back in my archives, year after year.  Some, absolutely stunning and unique and others simple and really just for the tradition of cutting.  By the way….according to Wikipedia the contemporary wedding cake has grown out of many traditions. One of the first traditions began in Ancient Rome where bread was broken over the bride’s head to bring good fortune to the couple. In Medieval England cakes were stacked as high as possible for the bride and groom to kiss over, if they successfully kissed over the stack they were guaranteed a prosperous life together.

I always look forward to photographing the cake and make sure I ask if there’s any special significance, like if “Aunt Margaret” made it, it’ll be important to get maybe a few more photos than usual.  In recent years I’ve noticed Wedding couples really putting their own spin on the “cake “idea.  I’ve seen a tier of Tim Horton Donuts, a whole table of homemade pies, an ice cream bar fully decked out with all the yummy crushed candy toppings, syrups and nuts.  Then of course the latest craze being cupcakes!  Love ’em!!  So cute and delicate, each almost having their own personality.  MUCH easier however for any guest to sneak one before it’s time…lol.  yes, it happens 🙂

If you’re getting married in the upcoming months or next year, put some real though into what would really show who you and your partner are.  Are you a “cake”? …cupcake? ….mixed candy? …donut? …homemade pie? ….FUDGE???

Don’t be afraid to put your real personality into it!
