Brantford Maternity Portrait | Favourite Baby Belly

Something that is so important to me as an artist is to try to stay fresh.  New eyes, fresh views, different genres of photography.  School, workshops, improving my skill and bonding and learning from others in my industry.  I get super psyched when I find something that inspires me and of course, want to jump in with both feet!  Creativity is practiced and needs to be cultivated and encouraged.  It’s not always at the forefront, especially when day to day business takes over.

Portraits have been the latest creative storm for me.  From Boudoir Photography to Maternity and contemporary Glamour/Beauty, drawing SO much of my inspiration from women.  Girlfriends, mentors, women business owners, moms, grandmothers… female acquaintances, clients and women on the street!  We’re all so uniquely gifted….beautifully imperfect; stitched together with our own wonderful mix of lessons, life experience, wisdom, challenges… AND baggage! *lol

The challenge I have set for myself with my portrait work is this….

…to show the sparkle.  The open space in the heart… the humanity and life force behind the eyes.  That internal gorgeousness that glistens with confidence and awareness.  It’s what we feel when we look at an incredible portrait, not what we see.

That said… (pretty deep huh?)  lol

…here is one of my latest Maternity portraits and it has none of that.  You can’t even see her eyes but in the form of her outlined beautiful belly with her hands gently holding the form, the connection between her and her child was palpable for me.
