{Wedding Photography in Brantford & London FAQ}

What if I’m ready to book you as our Wedding Photographer?

Get in touch as soon as possible.  It’s helpful to send as much information as you can, including the date of your Wedding, Wedding location and if I have the date free, we can set up a casual sit-down at my Brantford studio. Talking about Wedding details, photography timeline and what your perfect vision is for the Wedding, are all key components but the most important is to meet and get a feel for each other to make sure we’re a good fit on the Wedding day.  I can also show you more of my work and custom-made Wedding Albums so you can show off the best memories from your Wedding but also think of this as an heirloom for your children and grandchildren.

How many photographs will you take at my Wedding?

The sky’s the limit. I’m there for you and your partner and I’ll continue to shoot for the length of time I’m with you.  Editing and culling through is an important part of the process that’s incredibly time consuming but trust me, you wouldn’t want to see them all!  I only want you to see the best of the day and that’s for sure what you get.

Do you photograph Destination Weddings?

YES!  Some of my absolute favourite Weddings have been destination-based including Colorado, Costa Rica, North and South Carolina.  Contact me with your firm date and travel confirmation and as much information about the trip as possible.  The more info you can supply…the more accurate pricing I can provide you.  Destination Wedding commissions start at $3500.

I see you offer a free Engagement Photography session. What if we don’t need or want one?

For me, this trial run before the Wedding is amazing.  This portrait session allows us to get to know each other a little before the Wedding and have some fun.  I’m only going to know what I learned about you at the consultation meeting so this time together gives me some insight into the kind of people you are.  Plus, you get to see some great professional photos of the two of you.  Couples I work with always say how happy they are that we did it.  They have an idea of how I work and I have a better sense how to meet their expectations by blending my creative style with theirs.

How do we choose the right Wedding Photographer for us?

This is probably the most important decision you will make surrounding your Wedding Day.

Personality is crucial. Your photographer is virtually the only person who will be with you for the majority of the day and will be directly in charge of your timeline, so it’s important that personalities click. Make sure you meet at least once. Be prepared to ask questions and make sure you have some idea of what you’re looking for….Style, portfolio, personality. Don’t be afraid to point out images in a portfolio that you like or don’t like and say why. This will help your photographer to determine what your expectations are.

Take the time….it’s an important decision.  After all is said and done, the photographs are what you have to memorialize the day.

How far will you travel for a Wedding?  Will you Photograph my Destination Wedding?

I service mainly Southern Ontario but am open to quoting any location for you.  Contact me with your Wedding information and I’d be happy to send you a quote.  Wedding photography locations include London Ontario, Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo, Toronto and the Niagara area.  I have also been hired for Destination Wedding Photography.  If you wish to have me quote a Destination Wedding for you, e-mail me as soon as you have dates and reservations.  My Destination Wedding Photography area includes Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Southern United States and Europe.

Why should we choose Sherry Smith Photography?

Trust me when I say that I take the time to know what’s important to you and your fiance. I’m a one-woman show, so you know that when we unite to work together, you get my full attention.  I have years of experience documenting Weddings and really love people.  I’m passionate about my work and love to make art from real life moments.  There’s nothing better than being a professional photographer.  I work hard to ensure you get all of the incredible memories to relive forever from your Wedding Day.

Do you photograph same-sex Weddings?

Yep, absolutely.  I’ve photographed many gay and lesbian Weddings.

How many locations can we use for photos?

We can go to as many photo locations as time will allow. Don’t forget to calculate travel time and just a hint… during planning make sure that the people who are needed for photos at another location, know about it ahead of time… when and where.

Do we sign a contract?

Yes, you sign a standard contract that states the Wedding information names, date, place and time. It’s also a receipt for your $500 deposit and shows your payment schedule.  The Wedding Contract protects both parties involved and clearly defines the terms of the agreement.

How far in advance should we book you, our Wedding Photographer?

To confirm the Wedding date you want it’s necessary to book as early as possible, especially if you have a popular summer date.  A year in advance or more usually.  That said, you should contact me to check my availability anyway, if you think we’d be the right fit.

Is it really important to have a back-up plan in case it rains?

You MUST have a back-up plan.  We’ll need to discuss it and be ready in case of bad weather.  I’m always very prepared for Plan B and you, your family, groom and guests should be too.

We like your work but have appointments with a couple of other Wedding Photographers. Will you hold our date for us?

Your Wedding date will be firm in my schedule once the $500 deposit is made and the contract is signed.  I’d encourage anyone to see as many people as they need to when planning a Wedding.  Wedding Photography is one of the most important decisions with a lot to consider. It is the only thing you will have left to show you the day, as years pass.  I would hope to hear back from you with a firm booking after you’ve spent some time meeting with others and comparing what we have to offer and how it blends with your vision.

What if we really don’t like getting our Photographs taken?

Most people are more afraid of looking bad in photographs but I find more often than not, they haven’t been photographed by a professional.  It makes a big difference.  The most important thing you can do is relax, have fun and focus on your partner.

How do you feel about friends and family taking photos at the Wedding?

I have no problem with family and friends taking photos as long as they understand that you have paid me to perform a service that’s on a timeline. It can be a problem with a mob of picture-takers, when you and the Wedding party are looking at the them instead of me. That said, it can really can be a fun experience for everybody when handled properly.  The one time when photos have become an issue recently is when the bride is coming down the aisle.  There is a mass of phones and tablets in the aisle…  so much so that the groom almost can’t see the bride.  I’ve taken many photos of the bride’s entrance and see nothing but devices.  You should remind your guests to be respectful at this time and keep their devices down.

What can we do to get the best Wedding Photographs for us?

One thing that will greatly help is to be relaxed and calm. It is your Wedding Day and you’re supposed to enjoy yourself. Try to smile and not let your nerves get the best of you. Be as natural as possible, especially when shooting a lot of candid and documentary-style images.  This is where the experience of the Engagement Session comes into play.  Once you’ve had a run-through it helps you to know what to expect so you’re not so nervous.

What is the timeline before we can get our Wedding photos?

You’ll receive your photos on USB within 6-8 weeks of the Wedding Day.  A custom designed Wedding Album takes another 4 weeks from the date you order.

How much time should we expect our Wedding Photographer to need for formal photographs?

This depends on family size, Wedding Party size and how far the photo locations are and a number of other variables. This is why it’s important to have a consultation appointment. You can discuss all the details and figure out the best timeline for you and your partner.

I do like to meet with couples in advance of a booking to make sure we’re the right fit for each other.  It’s a complimentary service I provide and an ideal time to discuss the finer details and timeline of the Wedding day.

Do you charge a travel fee for Weddings outside Brantford?

There’s no travel fee for areas like Hamilton Ontario, London Ontario or Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario.  Wedding Photography services for Toronto, Ontario, St. Catharines Ontario and the Niagara area travel charges apply and will vary.
